Here is a 12-point checklist to help you ensure the content that you create and use meets ethical and inclusivity standards.



  1. Is the content free from stereotypes?

    Avoid over-generalisations or portrayals that reinforce harmful biases.


  2. Does the content feature diverse representation?

    Include individuals of varying ethnicities, genders, ages, abilities and identities.


  3. Are diverse voices authentically portrayed?

    Ensure that people are represented in empowering and non-tokenised roles.


  4. Is the language respectful and neutral?

    Avoid derogatory terms, aggressive or gendered language unless contextually appropriate.


  5. Are accessibility features included?

    Add captions for videos, alt text for images and high-contrast designs for readability.


  6. Have you consulted with under-represented groups?

    Involve individuals from different demographics to validate the content authenticity, diversity and representation.


  7. Is the content culturally sensitive?

    Research and respect cultural symbols, practices and norms.


  8. Does the content promote equity?

    Highlight efforts or narratives that address systemic inequalities.


  9. Are visual materials inclusive?

    Feature a mix of body types, abilities, and appearances in photographs, videos, or illustrations should they be included as part of the media representation.


  10. Is the message accessible to all audiences?

    Use clear language and avoid technical jargon that may alienate some groups.


  11. Are you amplifying marginalised voices?

    Prioritise stories and perspectives from underrepresented communities.


  12. Have you reviewed the content for unconscious bias?
